The second round of the Women’s Nationals was held at Newry Motocross track, Victoria. The best women’s races Australia and New Zealand has to offer lined up on the grid for the first Moto on the well prepared track.
Yamaha’s Tahlia Neilson gained a blistering start to the Moto, coming out of the first corner in second place behind world champion Katherine Prumm (Yamaha). After a minor mistake on lap one Neilson moved back to 3rd behind Adelia Barton (Honda). Neilson was then battling with a hard charging Kristy Gillespie (KTM) for third position, holding her position for the next few laps before going off line and allowing a gap for Gillespie to pass. Neilson held on to 4th to the checkered flag. The start in Moto Two put Neilson back in tenth, before she started a strong ride back up to 5th position. The rough track took its toll and Neilson was unable to catch back up to the next rider Ashlea Bates (Husqvarna), settling for 5th. Just missing out on the podium due to the count back rule Neilson was relegated back to fourth overall for the day. “ I was really happy with how my YZ250f went today, we have been trying new suspension setups and which have really improved the handling. I was disappointed after just missing out on the podium this time, but the final round at Lakes is only three weeks away so I’ll be training hard and looking to be up there then.” Katherine Prumm Yamaha 50 pointsKristy Gillespie KTM 42 pointsAshlea Bates Husqvarna 34 pointsTahlia Neilson Yamaha 34 pointsAdelia Barton Honda 31 points Tahlia’s Major Sponsors: City Coast Motorcycles, Yamaha, HyperFlow Troy Corser radiators, MxRad, Shift, Oakley, Rockstar Energy Drink, Etnies and Doma Pipes. |
