17 year old Husky Chix rider Ashlea Bates dominated the Women’s class at The Australian off Road Championship held at Conondale on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on the weekend.

On Saturday round 3 was contested in hot and dusty conditions, with a sun shower at the end of the day’s racing. Racing consisted of 7 heats of sprint racing using an Enduro test with lots of creeks and a cross test which included the motocross track.

With 10 girls, and 61 clubman riders, after each test Ashlea moved up the ladder to finally finish the day 2 minutes and 32 seconds in front of second place Jemma Wilson and 16
th outright against 71 riders.

Round 4 was held on Sunday, temperatures had dropped but that didn’t faze Bates.

Racing consisted of 5 heats using both tracks back to back.

With Saturday’s races helping to know the tracks a lot better, Bates powered through to take out 6
th outright amongst 66 riders. Amongst the women, Bates finished 2 minutes and 6 seconds in front of Alison Parker.

"Being a Moto crosser I had never been on this track before but what can I say, it was great I loved the enduro test, the creeks were a lot of fun except getting wet. It’s great to see the women’s class growing and they are a great bunch of girls. My Husqvarna TE250 handled so well in these conditions and the Metzeler tyres gripped extremely well on the slippery track .I even dragged along my junior team mate Courtney Knight to have ago and it was fun comparing who was the least wet." Laughed Bates. Husky Chix Racing Ashlea Bates will now head down to Newry Victoria next weekend for round 2 of The Women’s National MX Championships.
