17 year old Husky Chix rider Ashlea Bates from Coffs Harbour dominated the Women’s class at The Australian off Road Championship held at Port Macquarie NSW on the weekend.
On Saturday round 1 was contested in extremely hot and dusty conditions, it was Ashlea’s first attempt at Enduro. With 13 girls including Australian Champion Alison Parker, and 71 clubman riders, Ashlea riding with an injured wrist surprised all. Every test Ashlea just moved up the ladder to finally finish on the day 2 minutes and 13 seconds in front of second place Jacqui Jones. What was even more impressive for the new comer was Ashlea finished 21st outright in the Clubman Class on Saturday against 84 riders. "Well I surprised myself. We decided to give Enduro ago to keep fit for the Aussie MX titles and didn’t really know what to expect. My Husqvarna TE250 handled so well in these conditions and the Metzeler tyres gripped extremely well on the slippery track." Said Batesy.
