For the first time in ten years, Wollongong motorcycle club was home to one of the biggest Opens on the East Coast of Australia last weekend. With factory riders like the Marmont brothers, Cheyne Boyd, Daniel McCoy, and junior Tye Simmonds, there was a large crowed of spectator checking out the racing action. The crowed was also treated to some great racing from the girls and Wollongong’s Tahlia Neilson was there on her YZ250F competing.

Moto One: With the girls mixed in with the over 35 Experts, Tahlia was off to a good start being the first girl into the corner, and only having four 450’s in front of her. Close behind was Amy Boyd, this made for some great racing between both girls. Keeping Boyd at bay until the last lap, Neilson made a small error on the finish line jump casing and allowing Boyd to get a better run into the next corner and put in a pass, crossing the line in second.

Moto Two: Tahlia’s Yamaha YZ250F once again got her off the line to a blistering start beating a lot of the Experts 450’s into the first corner. Over the next table top another rider tried to come underneath Neilson and was partially landed on, allowing Boyd to get by. Tahlia put in a charge on Boyd over the next two laps, and on lap three put in a pass on her and another rider on one of the fast down hill sections of the track. Neilson was leading Boyd for the next half a lap before an expert rider t-boned Tahlia in one of the corners, this allowed Boyd to go around the outside of both of them and take the win.

Moto Three: Neilson was stuck mid pack after a pile up in tight sand corner of the track. When the bikes had cleared Tahlia was already disadvantaged with Boyd out in front. Putting in some hard laps, the gap between the girls was too large for Neilson to cause any upset, finishing second again.

“I was really disappointed I didn’t pick up a win today, I was so close in Moto two but what can you do, these things happen. Amy had been riding really well lately and was running with Prumm for a bit last weekend so I’m happy to be up there racing with her. I’ve really got my starts happening now and I’m not always fighting my way up the front. There’s a big break until the next round of Nationals in Victoria so I’m going to be getting as much bike time as I can.”

Tahlia’s Major Sponsors: City Coast Motorcycles, Yamaha, HyperFlow radiators, MxRad, Shift, Oakley, Rockstar Energy Drink, Etnies and Doma Pipes.
