QLD Yamaha Girls Team rider Tamara Gray (City Yamaha) yesterday claimed three wins from three starts in the Women’s Lites Class at the opening round of the Yamaha Queensland Motocross Championships.
Four hundred and fifty rider’s toughed out the rutted, hard packed track over the two days of racing at Woodstock, Townsville in North Queensland. The Women’s class boasted over twenty riders. Gray had extra work cut out for her as she was the only girl who also contested eighty seven riders in the Lites Championship class. “I am happy to have ridden well, and survived the heat and track conditions this weekend. My YZ250F pulled some great starts for me over the weekend. I am looking forward to the next round at Gladstone next weekend.” Gray commented. Team mate Brooke Thiemann (City Yamaha) struggled with her race fitness over the weekend placing a 6th in Saturday’s race, then a 9th and 8th in Sunday’s races. Thiemann finished in 7th overall, with only a 3 point margin to 5th position. “It’s been a slow start to the year for me, there hasn’t been many girls races. It was good to get back into the mix of things. I think my results should improve in Gladstone, as I am aware of a few areas that I can improve”. Thiemann commented. Local Yamaha rider Kiera Smith (Burdekin Motorcycles) placed a stellar 2nd overall after some strongstarts and two 2nd place finishes and one 4th place finish. The girls now will have only a short break as round two of the Yamaha Queensland Motocross Championships rolls in to Gladstone next weekend the 29-30 March.
