For Macarthur based rider Rachael Eagle during the third and final round of the NSW Women’s series at Young Motorcycle club recently saw bad starts hamper stronger results in the two classes she rode in, Women’s Open and Women’s Lites, on her Honda CRF 250cc.
Despite being a little annoyed with her bad starts, Eagle was still able to secure third overall in both classes at the completion of the three round series.
“It was good to claim top 3 results in both series point scores, as that was the aim,” said a pleased Eagle. “Although I struggled with my starts in the third round, I just put it down to it not being my day and I will now go back and spend considerable time practicing my starts.”
With the Young track being one lane it made passing difficult and good starts were very important, with Eagle commenting.
“My bad starts really hurt my weekend and this saw me constantly having to work my way through the field time after time and when I got to the pointy end of the field I would simply run out of laps,” she said. “Since the track was mainly one lane, that didn’t work in my favour either, and when I got the lead pack they had their lines and I was unable to find a way pass at times.”
At the completion of the meeting Eagle was credited with fourth overall in Women’s Lites (5th, 4th and 3rd) and third overall in Women’s Open (4th, 2nd and 4th) for this round, which was a result she was pleased with considering the way the day worked out.
“Yeah, considering our day to come away with those results is pretty satisfying,” Eagle admitted. “There were a few moments out there throughout both classes where things got a little heated, but at the end of the day that’s racing.”
In the third year running of the NSW Women’s event, this was the first year that it was held over three round series; Eagle was excited about the future for this event in the coming years.
“I found that running over three rounds was great and something that I really enjoyed,” she said. “The future looks in good shape for the coming years, and it has been strongly supported by the riders and the tracks, which I hope will continue.”
Eagle is now setting her goals on a top 3 finish in the up and coming Women’s Husqrvana Gold Cup, which will be held in conjunction with the KTM Cup at Yatala Qld on 8th October 2005.
